FAT FINGERS: Porting point-and-click adventure games to iOS

Janet will be talking about her career, and the hurdles she has encountered trying to give gameplay a familiar, classic feel, no matter the limitations of the hardware, or the expectations of a platform's audience.

JANET GILBERT has been working in mobile games since 2002. She began her career porting PopCap and other casual games such as Bejeweled 2 and Tradewinds to the old Palm OS and Pocket PC platforms for the UK developer Astraware, then moved to Distinctive Developments to work on ports for iPhone and J2ME.

She met Dave Gilbert by chance at lunch at GDC 2007, and they struck up a long distance romance that led to marriage in 2009 and the birth of a daughter in 2013. They live in Brooklyn, and run Wadjet Eye Games from their apartment. She is currently working on porting their extensive back catalogue of games to iOS, with Gemini Rue out earlier this year, The Shivah coming out for Hannukah, and the Blackwell saga to follow next year.
